The Adeptus Mechanicus Explorator Warband

I had a certain picture in my head. I wanted this warband to look like some sort of menacing and arcane. Just like how the Adeptus Mechanicus is being described in the Warhammer Novels. Covered in robes, barely visible flesh (if there is even flesh left), more machine than anything else.

The Miniatures

I want to start with the first models I finished. The Mechanic Shadows. From there I will show you each individual member of this warband. Enjoy!

The Mechanic Shadows

These mysterious individuals are haunting and deadly. They are the fast attacking members of this warband. Heavily augmented, hovering over the battlefield almost too fast for the eyes, armed with blades attached directly to their artificial limbs.

This whole warband is loyal to the god emperor of mankind so the Shadows wear the imperial iconography instead of their faces. May it the last thing the enemies of the holy throne will see.

Calio Yuss // Magos Explorator

Gatherer of Ancient Thoughts

This individual is a powerful Magos serving as the right hand of the Archmagos of this warband. Heavily augmented and a master of political negotiation.

The Adeptus Mechanicus’ pursuit of lost knowledge, ancient artifacts and all kinds of long lost items is well known. Also the methods to engross them. But sometimes it can be helpful to negotiate things with the population of a foreign planet. Always having the one mission in mind: Gathering knowledge.

Ruban Kova // Archmagos Explorator

Reaver of Legacies

This intimidating Archmagos is the leader of the warband. A terrifying appearance forged in devastating battles for knowledge. Centuries of experience in a carapace of ceramite armor.

Ruban Kova found his profession in an Explorator Fleet as a young Technographer. As an aprentice he stood out in combining signs for lost knowledge and became a well known and respected Magos Explorator within the fleet.

Soon he had his own individuals for his own expeditions and returned with ancient knowledge of foreign worlds.

His armed carapace is also a place for him to study and to meditate. Sometimes he’s locking himself away for months. But when the hatch opens it’s time to gather his retinue and explore the universe for all the unknown wonders it hides in it’s endless depths.

Vales Lica // Explorator Specularii

Seer of Old Realms

Vales Lica is a master of analyzing planetary systems for the expedition and is the forseeing eye of it.

Lica helps to evaluate what to expect from the surface before the expedition disembark. Once landed on the foreign world, it’s his function to quickly calculate routes to the exact pisition of the wanted item.

With his four legs he is a fast scout on any terrain without leaving visible footprints. He’s able to swarm out and come back with the informations the Archmagos needs to accomplish the mission.

Liliah

The Wisdom’s Fate

Liliah is what you can call a menacing appearance. Surrounded by pure psychic energy, floating above the ground, crackling air around this devastating entity.

Usually the Adeptus Mechanicus doesen’t use much psykers and idividuals with psychic powers. Liliah is an example of how useful it can be to have psychic powers as a supportive weapon.

As a master of corrupting others minds she is able to force enemies into her will without them even noticing. Liliah is also a deadly foe with her cataclysmic psychic attacks.

Sethi

These two servitors are bearing relics to support and to remind the members of the expedition who they are: Explorators of the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Scava, the mechanic servitor bears the Reconnaissance (fig.). The shield with an ancient space vehicle stands for the urge of exploration, the pursuit of the unknown, the daringness of pushing boundaries.

Sethi, the cherub bears the Reminiscence (fig.). Sealed ancient books with antiquated knowledge of the old days. These stand for the origins of space exploration, how small the universe were back in 22.M03 and how far the Adeptus Mechanicus has come.

So, these are the characters of my Adeptus Mechanicus Explorator Warband. My second warband for a narrative campaign. I hope you enjoyed these. In the next post I’ll share some thoughts I had during the creation process of this group.
